Review of Beaufort (2007) by Jim M — 08 Feb 2008
Lebanon, October 2000. The Israeli army prepare to leave their base at Beaufort castle, a former Crusader fortress. This low-key, thoughtful war movie eschews the usual epic views of the genre to focus on a small group of soldiers passing the time amid boredom and moments of terror.
The cinematography aids in taking the viewer into the claustrophobic atmosphere, while the well-drawn characters illustrate the wider situation, such as when one solider remarks of their position, "When you're here long enough, the view changes".
