Review of Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest (2011) by Draz B — 19 Jan 2012
I might be biased in my opinion because ATCQ was one of the first Hip Hop groups that I really connected with as a fan of the genre due to the lyrics and beats and style. I thought it was well put together and it stayed interesting throughout. It didn't feel like the typical documentary, more like a movie. There were dramatic moments that hit hard, and there were comical moments that made the crowd laugh. The soundtrack/score was as awesome as you would expect it to be. I would have liked to see them explore the 3 latter albums a bit more but that's only because Midnight Marauders is my favorite of the 5 albums they dropped. All in all, it was great and we barely found a seat at the latest show 12:10am!! It was sold out the entire evening - need to add more shows or a bigger theater for more seats.
If you live the Hip Hop of the early 90's then you love The Tribe. This is a must see.
