Review of Be Somebody (2016) by Vera H — 11 Oct 2016
Truly cute and straight-up PG story about a small-town artsy girl with dreams of attending art school in big-time NYC, but no confidence to apply. Enter a pouty, mega-famous teen pop star who just wants some time to himself.
When his tour bus makes a quick stop in arsty-girl Emily's hometown, he sneaks out for some late-night skateboarding and gets left behind. Worse, pouty pop-boy Jordan gets recognized by a pack of shrieking tween fans and is reluctantly rescued by Emily.
As the night wears on, a friendship starts to form as each finds the voice of change in what the other has to say. The sometimes-wooden acting doesn't detract from the slightly unbelievable story that actually holds water.
Surprisingly entertaining and genuinely sweet, treat this like an enjoyable slice of key lime pie and don't sweat the calories.
