Review of Ayla: The Daughter of War (2017) by Yash B — 21 Apr 2018
I think if you get through the entirety of the brilliantly captivating Turkish film, "Ayla: The Daughter of War" without shedding a single tear, you likely don't have a pulse. The opening scene sets the tone of the film well and I found myself invested in the story throughout.
The movie is irresistibly sweet and feels like a healthy dose of multiple genres. It's intense, sweet, funny, and heartfelt all blended together. The movie balances these clashing tones very well and flows at a fantastic pace.
The actors are all excellent and all are convincing in the more emotional moments. This is one of those foreign films that excites me to seek out what else is out there from other countries. It's an excellent movie with an unbelievable true story that is sure to tug at anyone's heartstrings by the time the credits roll around.
