Review of Awaken the Shadowman (2017) by Jacqueline L — 07 Oct 2018
This movie had a lot of potential. Equal parts The Wicker Man meets Slender Man, and I have never seen a film so badly fail to utilize either element to even a fraction of what it could be. I genuinely need to know if they had to stop production before they wished to and try to make something of the disparate parts they managed to shoot, because the shadowman in question is never explained and the other antagonist they do attempt to explain never appears in the film again as soon as he is explained.
This is a film where somehow, with so much going on, literally nothing happens. Events are hinted at, but nothing happens. More of the mystery is uncovered but nothing is really done about it, or the characters just seem to stand there listlessly and just do nothing while things unfold.
A final confrontation occurs and yet still somehow it feels like nothing is happening or being done.
