Review of Attack the Block (2011) by Julian B — 19 Nov 2012
A phenomenal yet simple film mixing science fiction and social commentary with elements of other genres. I love the authenticity of the film. Its what really sets it apart as well as the moral of the story.
It may be because how relate-able it is to me but the fact that there is more to these kids than just being gang-bangers is a magnificent point. You don't know the struggle unless you've been in solidarity.
There's more to it than the stereotypes and the media depictions. The film is swift gripping and fantastically humorous and awesome. The way the science fiction aspects of the script and plot are assimilated into the film are brisk, unique and highly memorable and engaging.
A cult classic. A simple masterpiece.
