Review of Apollo 13 (1995) by Kevin P — 09 Feb 2010
If you haven't seen this movie yet you need to go out and rent it today. It sort of goes hand in hand with "The Right Stuff" only THIS time it's a much more dangerous mission - landing astronauts on the moon and then returning them to earth safely.
During the first Apollo test three astronauts died before they even had a chance to get off the ground (just to give you an idea of how dangerous this mission was). During Apollo 13 they were already on their way to the moon when something went seriously wrong, and there's no gas stations floating around in space! You can't just pull over to the side of the road and call AAA when you're halfway to the moon! We have lost 17 astronauts during our space program which is not bad when you consider that about 3,000 people have died as a result of the blunders that the Russians made in their attempt to beat us into space.
