Review of Any Day Now (2012) by Shannyn K — 01 May 2012
I bought my ticket to Any Day Now on a whim. The movie I really wanted to see was sold out, but I wanted to see *something* at the Tribeca Film Festival. I took a brief look at the summary of Any Day Now, thought, "Oh, Alan Cumming. I've seen him in something, right?" and bought the ticket.
I don't think I've ever been more pleased with an impulse purchase! The development of Rudy and Paul's relationship in the first half is one of the sweetest love stories I've ever seen, and the legal battles and prejudice of the second half are utterly heartbreaking. It felt to me like a more intimate version of Milk.
The acting is fantastic, as is Alan Cumming's singing! I really, really hope that this film gets distributed. Everyone should see it.
