Review of Another Country (1984) by Afizah A — 30 Aug 2007
This movie was made after julian mitchell won the best play (laurence olivier award, 1982) the movie was perfected by the casting of rupert everett's (same as the play) that make the part of guy bennett convincingly strong, dignified and real.
the story revolves around bennett in boarding school surrounded by prejudice about sexuality and pride. although set in the 1930's, viewers can still experience the strong sense of resonance with school days now.
the atonement with simplistic colours and clever dialogues makes the movie almost dark but shines with sparkles of comedic moments. this film is an achievement and it manages to secure and immortalize everett's performance for his future career.
a very truthful entry to accurately depict, document and communicate the 30's public school life in england.
