Review of And Soon the Darkness (2010) by Ibrahim M — 26 Jan 2011
I was about to say this is just another in the recent trend of foreigner fearing, kidnapped abroad films, then I discovered this is a remake of a 1970 film of the same name. So Paradise Lost etc. probably ripped off that 1970 film.
I love whoever decided to put Yustman and Heard in the same film. I've always loved Urban too, and he was fine here while he was in it. The plot is terrible though; it never really goes anywhere, you definitely know the policeman is involved.
They keep you guessing with Urban's Michael for a while at the beginning though, which I thought was good. Heard always does 'girl in danger who is also willing to fight back with a vengeance when she needs to' so well.
Towards the end you just stop caring about what happens here though. I haven't seen the original, so I don't know if this is true to it, but they should have come up with a smarter plot.
