Review of Amira & Sam (2014) by J L — 21 Sep 2016
Pros:
Hollywood has forgotten how to make a good romantic movie so we have to rely on indie studios to deliver these gems.
A few really good visuals set with parts of NYC in the background such as the boat scene on the Hudson, Coney Island, Verazanno Bridge, top of Empire State Building.
Cons:
The script was light and weak in certain parts. I cannot imagine an Arab woman in a hijab keep tossing the word "man" when referring to both men and women. I get that she is an immigrant without a strong grasp of the English language. I have grown up in Queens, so trust me I get it. However, it still sounds really bad in real life, and worse on the silver screen.
