Review of All Star Superman (2011) by Westleigh Q — 23 Jun 2011
About as good as these direct to DVD animated movies get. It has good pacing but mostly focuses on the concept of death and things being left unfinished. It is ultimately a sad story, and I wonder how well most of the ideas in it get across to those who see it without first having read the comic (which I own and have watched a couple times).
Sometimes the flow is a little off because it is an adaptation of the series of graphic novels, which means several different events which each could be the basis for a movie are instead turned into 12 minute chapters in the larger tale of Superman's death.
So I guess I would say, strong and smart narrative, but choppy pacing and big concepts that could use more room to be developed.
