Review of Ali's Wedding (2017) by Tuty P — 04 Sep 2017
Loved the movie for the simple reason that it is charming. I saw the trailer and wasn't keen on the premise at first but have watched it and loved it. I don't know whether all Australians can identify with it but I can tell you that anyone from a traditional immigrant family can identify with its sentiments - the pressure to conform and make your family proud versus the pressure to just be yourself.
It's a universal conundrum. And having seen The Big Sick with its similar themes, I find Ali's wedding sweeter and more entertaining.
