Review of Ali's Wedding (2017) by Meredith W — 26 Oct 2018
This warm-hearted comedy is based on real events, which make it even more poignant beneath its irreverence. After Iraqi-born Muslim Osamah Sami's white lie of making it into medicine at university spirals out of control, he finds himself committed to an arranged marriage despite being in love with an Australian born-Lebanese girl.
It is nice to see a different take on the Australian experience in film and even though it explores the blend of Middle Eastern and Australian culture, at its core it is an affectionate story of family.
