Review of Aladdin (2019) by Dharma — 28 May 2019
Aladdin is the best Disney Live Action adaptation to date. Face it, they are never going to be as good as their original animated counterpart. But by bringing their A game, Disney is the only studio that can deliver this sort of film.
Sure, some of the special effects feel a bit wonky, but the return of Alan Menken, along with the writing team behind The Greatest Showman, delivers new materials that are great. The cast is perfect: but the stand out is Naomi Scott as Jasmine, what a star making turn.
As per usual, it is a 'remake' so scenes are lifted directly from their animated counterpart, some with limited success. But for the most part, the film works very well.
