Review of Ajami (2009) by Fran T — 27 Jun 2010
A standard crime thriller but it is lifted by the setting of a poor area of Jaffa and the relations between Muslims and the Israeli police. Apparently most of the characters are played by non-actors and it was cowritten and directed by an Israeli Jew and a "Palestinian citizen of the Israeli state" as he puts it.
Its entertaining and does a bit of interesting jumping in time and perspectives with a satisfying denouement with everything slotting into place. (Well, sort of!).
