It's simple... Without this movie, Apocalypse Now wouldn't exist. It's an artsy descent into hell and the heart of darkness. The cinematography is beautiful, the lead actor is so psychotic and evil it's scary and there's plenty of stuff there that will linger in your mind after watching it.
Classic stuff...
