Review of Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas (2013) by Steve W — 11 Jan 2015
Beautifully shot and acted, Age of Uprising plays like a low-key Braveheart. A simple family man and horse merchant is wronged by a corrupt baron, when two of his best horses are taken and his servant is ravaged by dogs. When the corruption stops his pleas for justice and he is further wronged, Michael Kohlhaas takes to the sword and crossbow in order to seek justice.
Its the small emotional bits that are more memorable than the collective film, as the movie's pacing is on and off. When the movie is visceral, its visceral. The movie is well shot, and while waiting in between slow parts it can be a bit of a chore, but that final shot of the film is something that shows that Mads Mikkelsen is an acting force to be reckoned with.
