Review of After Life (1999) by Daijobu D — 10 Oct 2007
If there's ever a film that conveys the director's passion for cinema, and sentiments for the medium's essence - to capture moments for us to relish in the future, this film is it. Its slower pace isn't for everyone.
.. if you hate films by Wim Wenders, you'd probalby not like this film either... on the other hand, this is one of the most provocative and spiritually-engaging films I've seen in a long time..
. simple, effectively subtle, and near-perfect story-telling in the most understated way possible. Kore-eda Hirokazu is one of the most talented filmmakers coming out of Japan today... also recommend his later films DISTANCE, and NOBODY KNOWS.
