Review of After Earth (2013) by Jim A — 19 Apr 2014
Will Smith has never been duller. I honestly think the only reason this movie was made was as an expensive 130 million dollar gift to his spoiled brat of a kid. Shyamalan's slow joyless pace is as dull as ever and even its effects would have impressed if it was released a decade earlier.
Its plot also makes no sense whatsoever and for all its sci-fi mumbo jumbo it seems to get numerous concepts hilariously wrong even by Hollywood standards. With at times awful acting from usually good actors, a joyless tone, and a nonsensical plot I can't recommend anything about it that works.
