Review of After Dark, My Sweet (1990) by Bert G — 16 Jun 2007
I think that no one's novels are more deserving of a film treatment than Jim Thompson's. This moody piece is great and features Jason Patric at his best - it's my favourite performance by him.
I think making a noir film in the southwestern desert, and during the day, is an amazing accomplishment - especially if it rivals the gritty LA/NY noirs of old. Narrative above all! Bruce Dern is good too as a shifty scuzzbucket.
A great hidden gem.
