Review of Address Unknown (1944) by Matt R — 23 Aug 2010
Pretty weird and all over the place, but Kim ki-duk sansaengnim surprised and shocked me again.
There are some sad moments but in this film I did not cry as much as in his others. Maybe because this being one of his earlier works he might have not found a set of tear-jerking strings.
One scene I really like is one of the bow and arrow events. It caught me by surprise and was the highlight of the morbidly funny things.
However, for all the Dolby and other support he received, I wish I had not seen year 2000 military equipment in a setting of 1970. But, then, as an ex-sailor I'm that minority in the audience who'll catch stuff like that. Fortunately, most of the hardware shown (and uniforms, and female in the platoon PFT runs) was sparing and not shown repeatedly or long.
