Review of Across the Universe (2007) by Chris H — 06 Jul 2011
I loved the psychedelic imagery and the music; this is a completely frivolous, symbolic, aesthetic movie with Bono! But I did not watch this movie because of any one person; I just loved the fresh concept.
In a way this is nothing new; the concepts are unoriginal such as the the cops shutting down the concert amid "All You Need is Love" but I have never seen a movie that weaves a band's music into one beautiful movie.
Forget the plot; this movie's plot is dictated by music. This movie is proof that we can love film as an art; in an age of cheap horror flicks and overused action sequences, I found myself believing that the film industry could produce beauty.
We could even have an ill-advised sequel complete with "Yellow Submarine," "Eleanor Rigby," and "Lady Madonna!" Oops, I may have given away some songs that are not on Across the Universe.
