Review of A Yellow Bird (2016) by Seraphic W — 26 Dec 2016
I thought Apprentice was pretty grim. But A Yellow Bird just leaves it behind in the dust in terms of grimness. When the "nicest" location is a shitty government office, that says something. There are fearless performances (especially from Sivakumar Palakrishnan), there are carefully considered shots (some of which are achingly gorgeous), there is a relentless forward momentum driven by very human drama.
