Review of A Private War (2018) by Matt D — 04 Nov 2018
Marie Colvin didn't need a movie to show the world how much of a badass she was but dammit if this film doesn't illustrate it in a really beautiful way.
Rosamund Pike gives an absolutely incredible performance of a woman haunted by a life she is drawn to even when almost every other human would try to avoid. Pike really puts it all out there and should be appropriately recognized during awards season.
The film as a whole seems to have some pacing issues that keep it from complete greatness but the final act set in Syria is absolutely griping, heartbreaking, and will leave you shaken. It is a wonderful tribute to Colvin's career and her passion for shedding a light on the tragedies of the otherwise ignored parts of the world.
