Review of A Little Help (2010) by Tim B — 10 Dec 2011
While you're supposed to feel sorry for Laura (Fischer), who just lost her husband, her childish behavior and overall disregard for everything (except alcohol) makes her a completely unsympathetic character. As her family berates her for being selfish, the audience is reassured of her self-centeredness as she ignores her son for alcohol and even tries to sleep with her sister's husband. And the other family members are no better. Either over-acted or over-written, the other characters fall short of being lovable., with the exception of her father, who unfortunately only appears in a few, short scenes.
Within the last thirty minutes of the film, Laura seems to try to redeem herself, but for the audience who's watched her up to that point, it is too little, too late.
It's a shame because I had high hopes for this one.
