Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Jordan R — 09 May 2012
The Innkeepers is not exactly a great film, and I would also argue that it isn't the Director's best, but I did enjoy the film. A couple of disclaimers first: 1) This is a slow paced horror film; do not expect to be beaten over the head with jump scares every couple of minutes.
2) This is not an overly scary film, intsead using atmosphere and location to build tension. While there are a couple of noteworthy scares through the film, anticipation of scares (that's called 'tension', folks) is what drives this film.
This is also very little use of blood or gore, but there is some. The performances from the small cast are alright, but you won't be amazed by anyone. Not as strong as Ti West's previous film, The House of The Devil, but a decent slown-burn of a horror movie.
Albeit, one that is light on the horror and heavy on the tension.
