Review of Society (1989) by Bill M — 10 Jun 2015
For the first two thirds Society is like an anti-Beverly Hills 90210, where a young man finds the high life a paranoid nightmare he's stuck in with aloof, vacuous rich assholes who are alien to him, including his own family, who he starts to suspect are actually not his family.
For most of the movie it's a bit like Heather's, a dark yuppie satire mixed with an uneasy paranoid thriller.....and then the ending happens. To say what takes place at the end would be to ruin the best thing about this fascinating and uneven horror film, suffice to say you will have a hard time forgetting it.
So if you want to know what "Shunting", give it a go and be prepared for a very fucking twisted movie with some of the grossest, slimiest, most nightmare inducing effects work ever. Completely unique.
