Review of Shanghai (2010) by Greg V — 04 Jan 2011
I love period movies, and this film is a good reason why.
Set in WW2 Japanese occupied Shanghai just before America enters the war, the film follows the actions of a US spy based in Shanghai and all the intrigues and counter plays by the various factions in what was a very volatile situation at the time.
Its a mix of drama, action and romance with its fair share of violence that actually earned it an R rating but its on the same level as any other action movie youll see these days.
The big name asian actors in this really live up to their reputation with brilliant perfomances. John Cusack was also very convincing as a US spy in the lead role.
Its not for everyone, but if your into drama and period flicks this is a couple of hours well spent. One of the best movies Ive seen recently.
