Review of Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1953) by Lisa M — 14 Mar 2008
Why the five star rating you ask? Because like all of Jacques Tati's movies this one's a childhood favourite as well as a must-see classic. Compared to Tati's later films "Les Vacances.
." is the one most closely centered around its main character, Monsieur Hulot. I remember being ceaselessly amused by all the bizarre little incidents Tati gets his character into, and then later beginning to understand that it's not only the character-based comedy but also a lot of brilliant formal aspects that make this film so unique and entertaining.
