Review of Election 2 (2006) by David M — 09 Mar 2008
Rigthfully compared to The Godfather in a favorable way, Election's sequel is a brilliant exercice in the crime drama genre. I think To really managed to capture the coldness and the grittyness of the political games that are being played in the triads.
The election of a new leader is anything but democratic in the triads, as To shows us! And it's fascinating to have a glimpse into this world that we barely know. And while the story is captivating, the characters are really what all this film is about.
How each of them change and how each of them is affected by what happens during the course of the movie is extremely interesting. And the fact that the acting is almost perfect also helps a lot. The movie is both original and highly entertaining, and I would say it's an absolute must-see for serious gangster movie fans who prefer substance over style.
