Review of Dog Days (2001) by Scott G — 28 Apr 2010
I liked this, but not sure why. I love films where scorching heat is actually more important than most of the characters. I love how extreme heat can make people react (or not react). the heatwave seems very appropriate as a mirror of the apathy of most characters.
both 'cucaracha' scenes are actually really powerful, my favourites by far. also the annoying girl, I love how the director plays with the audience there. you just want her to die, or smack her in the face so she shuts up.
and then the end comes and everything's a bit 'ooops, I feel horrible now'. great. still, too choral for me. I love choral films but here it sometimes felt it's just a collection of tiny stories, only linked together by the loneliness and sadness of their characters.
all in all, i'm glad I watched it.
