Review of This Is England (2007) by H P — 21 Sep 2009
Phenomenal. Everything a good movie is and can be.
They made this movie with all of 1.5 million dollars which is more the cost of a spendy TV commercial or music video here in the states. A budget of a movie million five precludes a lot that we take for granted from hollywood: special effects, chase scenes, big stars, most of everything that blockbusters tend to rely on. Once you scrap all these barnacles off you pretty much have to go with the basics like oh, acting, story, narrative and the like.
Singer songwriters who, alone, stand on the stage and make their music uncluttered with synthesizers and lights and technology are forced to concentrate on the necessities.
That's how this movie is and it's a as good as it gets.
