Review of Take This Waltz (2011) by Ryan M — 12 Nov 2012
Sarah Polley's Take This Waltz is one of the more genuine romance-dramas to come out this year, so honest that - yes - I do genuinely believe that at least the screenplay (and the charming yet emotionally complex performance by Michelle Williams) should be nominated for an Oscar.
For a romance, the film tries pretty hard to make itself feel spectacularly un-romantic; but I suppose that is the point. Seth Rogen pulls off yet another pleasing dramatic performance and Luke Kirby is strong.
Sarah Silverman provides comic relief and an odd sense of, well, sense. The end is a little less satisfying than I wanted it to be, but overall, one of the year's best dramas.
