Review of Mind Game (2004) by Patrick B — 16 Feb 2013
One of the best films I've ever seen, certainly the best anime I've ever seen. What starts out as a comedic love story, turns into an action flick, only to metamorphose again into a philosophical Alice in Wonderland type rabbit hole.
The central theme is a very common one in Japanese stories about the transient nature of love, success, and life. If you're firmly accustomed to the western tradition of permanence (e.g. "and they lived happily ever after") you might not enjoy this film as much, but you should watch it anyway because it is masterfully done.
Hilarious, brilliant, sad, wonderful, and amazing all rolled into one crazy film.
