Review of Youth in Revolt (2009) by G-Su P — 29 Nov 2010
An incredibly underrated film, there is something so simple, yet so charming about Youth In Revolt. The teenage angst, "trying to get laid" premise has been done to death but never so well, with Michael Cera really getting a chance to stretch his wings, by breaking the mold. It's very smart, very witty and very entertaining. Funny, a little hoaky but still real in a sense, Youth In Revolt tells the story of two kids who just yearn for something better; to be noticed, to not be alone and to live. Never has a movie with multiple cartoon scene breaks been so relatable before, and Portia Douleday....I think I'm in love.
Youth In Revolt easily has the potential to be a cult classic: it was overlooked, underrated, performed poor at the box office and is a quirky, relatable teen story with colorful characters and a satisfying ending.
