Review of Wake Wood (2011) by Diana L — 29 Jan 2012
Wakewood' has a budget lower than a worm's tit but it doesn't let that stop it from being an unnerving film reminiscent of the short lived folk horror of the 1970's. Moments of unexpected gore are a throwback to the way Hammer redefined 'gore' in their early films but it is these moments of the film that are unwelcome.
The subtle peculiarities of the townsfolk and a certain bolt gun scene are where the film really alarms. Decent enough film and I hope to see a lot more from the return of Hammer in the future.
