Review of The Trotsky (2010) by Beki T — 29 Jul 2010
I saw this film at a film festival and it was truly hilarious. It made me laugh hard enough I got a piece of popcorn in my nose. Jay Baruchel is amazing as the teenager obsessed with Trotsky, There is an optimism to this movie that is truly refreshing and it is nice to see a film about teenagers that doesn't show sex, and partying as the main preoccupation of youth.
Although I found the relationship between Leon and Alexandra kind of creepy, it fits into the fantasy of the piece. It begs the question who is more fool, a dreamer with conviction or apathetic realistic.
It is totally worth a watch even if you have no idea who Leon Trotsky is.
