Review of The Rose (1979) by Mina M — 14 Dec 2008
The Rose gave me a view of Bette Midler's talents I had never seen previously, chiefly among these being her her ability to sing so edgily in representing her character (usually you think of some of the last 10-15 years of her music, with songs like "From a distance," without ever a clue to the variety of styles she is capable of performing).
I found it rather strange that the song winning awards from this movie happened to just be the end title. Disappointing in a way. But, still a remarkable performance that I would recommend for anyone to see.
