Review of The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) by Rex A — 10 Apr 2013
One of my favorites. The effects and the plot are completely immersive. I can lose myself in this storylike, which is what I ask of all good scifi. The art direction is what makes this movie great, despite being criticized by many.
I can't understand the criticisms except to wonder if critics can't stand to see Vin Diesel in a movie of substance. I think his muscle guy approach to Riddick is perfect. And the story line is complex, so there's lots of shorthand in the dialogue in order to bring the viewer up to speed.
All in all, this movie holds up well over time. It still is one of my favorite scifi flicks from plotline to direction to the pure beauty of the vision. 5 Stars.
