Review of Stephanie Daley (2007) by Julie L — 04 Dec 2007
If you don't like indie films, you may not enjoy this one. If you do, it's an amazing achievement. The painstakingly realistic situations, events and relationships make this a tough film to see, but that's why it's so brilliant.
The acting was superb - there is nothing to fault there. The cinematography was perfectly suited for the B-grade feel of the film. The camera angles and sometimes unsteady hand gave the illusion that what you were seeing was real life, and it felt like you were right there with the characters. Again - brilliant.
This is Amber Tambyln's movie - Period. What she does here is nothing short of phenomenal. The scene in the bathroom at the ski trip is devastating, you can almost feel her physical and emotional pain, all there for you to witness out of that sliver of space between door and door jam. Disturbing and unforgettable. Her acting alone deserves 5 stars, but the slow pace of the film knocks it down to 3.
