Review of Roman (2006) by Mathias H — 16 Jan 2008
Interesting companion piece to Lucky McKee's "May" (with Angela Bettis and McKee switching roles as director and actor) but it sadly pales in comparison. Solid acting from McKee but it's quite apparent that Angela Bettis has never directed before (though the talent is there) and it's disappointing that McKee couldn't write a more interesting screenplay (noting much happens in this overlong and drawn out character study).
On the positive side, it at least possesses intelligence and is tasteful, not going for exploitation but subtle chills... but it sadly fails at what it tries to achieve... Not a complete waste of time but nothing too memorable either.
