Brian De Palma returns to the themes of Casualties of War with this stylised retelling of actual events in the present Iraq War. The story of how 3 US servicemen raped and killed a 14 year old girl, and then desecrated her body, after having killed her family, is presented with disturbing graphic detail.
De Palma succeeds in highlighting the outrageous injustice of this war, but the real theme of Redacted is that of truth and lies; the disparity between the truth the camera sees, and the lie the camera records.
