Review of Pariah (2011) by Ricardo D — 29 May 2012
Film of the year. "Pariah", takes up the torch from 2008's "Precious" and depicts the chaotic existence of Black Lesbianism in the contemporary United States. Where, "Precious" depicts utter nihilism in America, "Pariah" strives to not depict any extreme, but instead illustrates life as much more complex. The acting and structure of the film are consistent and the essence of the film itself, is more than enough to interest anyone concerned about the struggles of Blackness, womanhood and lesbianism in America today.
Although, not an documentary on the contemporary issue, it serves as a artistic face for an ever increasingly controversial and sensitive issue in Black America, that is often silenced by Black and traditional American values.
