Review of Orlando (1992) by Jeffrey K — 26 Oct 2007
One of my all-time fave's, I love visual movies & this one is a sumptuous, sensual feast. Taken from a story that was written as a token of love from Virginia Woolf to Vita Sackville-West, the story follows a young mans search for meaning and beauty through 5 centuries of English history, transforming himself mentally, emotionally and (most strikingly) physically along the way.
Tilda Swinton is a goddess. & Quentin Crisp as the aging Elizabeth I is inspired casting. Sally Potter is an absorbing director & this is her at her best.
