Review of Noroi: The Curse (2005) by Daniel H — 18 Aug 2012
I'd heard a lot about the film since it's release and was always desperate to see it. I finally got the chance last night with two friends who wanted a creepy night in. Even though Noroi falls short of an out-and-out scarefest, with very few jumps, it is surprisingly clever and novel and a rewarding cinematic experience.
Small vignettes of paranormal goings on are presented haphazardly, each providing their own little chill, as we learn about the demonic rituals of a now destroyed village and their obsession with Kagutaba, everything is woven together to make one rather unsettling, hellish rope.
Don't expect to be hiding behind pillows or screaming every ten minutes - do expect to be engaged and morbidly curious, and probably a little uneasy as the credits roll.
