Review of Jeffrey (1995) by Ralph R — 30 Mar 2008
Steven Weber is the titular gay man living in New York who decides to give up sex, only to fall for HIV+ Steve (played by Michael T. Weiss). This well-written and highly entertaining film is by turns funny, emotionally moving, surreal and life-affirming.
The acting is superb, with Patrick Stewart a particular highlight as Jeffreyâ??s friend Sterling, who has some marvellous lines. Youâ??ll have a great time accompanying Jeffrey on his journey as he attempts to get to grips with dating, sex, relationships, and overcoming his fear of AIDS.
His bizarre phone conversation with his parents is an absolute comic delight. A wonderful film.
