Review of Into Great Silence (2005) by Sarah C — 22 Jul 2007
More of a meditation than a movie - the first ever visit by a film crew of the Grande Chartreuse, the main monastery of the Carthusian order, one of the strictest ascetic monasteries in the Catholic Church.
In 1984, German filmmaker Philip Groning wrote to the Carthusian order for permission to make a documentary about them. They said they would get back to him. Sixteen years later, they were ready... A unique film experience!
