This story of the rise (ha!) and fall of the porn industry set over the late seventies and early eighties is a masterpiece, and one of the best films of the 1990's, and it also announced two huge talents of the last decade, Mark Wahlberg (in his breakout role as pornstar "Dirk Diggler") and director Paul Thomas Anderson, who would go on to direct other masterworks Magnolia and There Will Be Blood and Adam Sandlers best film, Punch Drunk Love.
An modern American classic.
