Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Gareth J — 14 May 2011
Had this in my collection for years and due to the fact it is 3 hours long and a period drama have kept putting off watching it. But it turns out to be yet another classic from Kubrick, who to me is the 2nd best director ever (after Hitchcock).
The story is one about social standing and class. Its great how the films makes you root for Mr Barry in the 1st half and then hate him in the 2nd once he move enters a social sphere where he does not belong.
But social commentary aside, the film is so beautifuly shot and photographed that it makes you almost forget it was made 35 years ago. Brilliant.
